How to:Shrink a crisp packet

This tutorial is going to be quite fast because it’s very easy, but fun at the same time.

You will need:

Aluminium foil
1

Crisp packet (with the silvery inside)
2

An oven
3

A space shuttle

First turn on your oven to gas mark 6 (400f) and leave it for about 5 mins to heat up.

Now cut two piece of your foil a bit bigger than your crisp packet, then place the crisp packet in the middle and sandwich it in between the two pieces of foil gently folding in the sides. Make sure it’s nice and flat, or it won’t come out too straight.

4
5

Put this in the oven for 2 minutes as exact as you can (told you this was easy)

Now let your crisp packet cool and carefully peel it off your greaseproof paper.

6

Voila! Your own mini crisp packet, you can collect these or put a hole in the corner and use it as a key-ring if you have a spare ring anywhere. It can take a bit of trial and error to get perfect, but once you have you can repeat it over and over.

  11. This actually works with any crisp packets. When I was a kid the silvery on the inside ones didn't exist. I shrunk a Frazzles packet and made it into a badge, and I did it under the grill using the oven glove to flatten it down when it curled up.

  17. Try peircing it with a leather punch, putting a jump ring through it and then putting it onto a chain/glue it onto a headband. He-He... Kitsch at its best

  18. It annoys me how they crinkle up, however very fun to do! Does it work with any kind of foil wrappers? Like skittles wrappers or chocolate bar wrappers? :)

  23. I tried using an (empty) cat food tin, but it didn't work, and my Mom gave out to me for breaking the oven. Could the editor drop me an email please, as I'd like to discuss compensation? Out of court obviously, I've been kicked out of home and couldn't afford legal fees.
Thanks, and keep melting stuff in ovens people!!

  30. Someone might use them as a weapon. You could take and eye out with the corner of a shrunken crisp packet. If the flavour was ready salted they might then incur a period of high blood pressure should the wound cut a blood vessel.
